Welcome to Barutiwa.com Online!

You have arrived at one of the most exciting citizen journalism communities in cyberspace.  Barutiwa.com developed from the old Barutiwa Newspaper (ISSN 1080-997x) that was published in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1992 to 1999.  Barutiwa.com has been online since February 1999 and was highly active until the Spring of 2004.  During this period Barutiwa.com emerged as the largest black owned online community in Cincinnati, Ohio offering its users free webmail and forums.  From the Spring of 2004 to the Spring of 2010 Barutiwa.com was cybersquatted.  In February 2010, the original owner, Baruti M. Kamau, re-acquired Barutiwa.com.

The all new Barutiwa.com Online is a community of self-styled journalists and creative writers championing the values of free speech and a free press in all of its complexities.

What is Barutiwa?
The term "barutiwa" is derived from the name of its founder, Baruti Muhammad Kamau.  Baruti is a Black African name meaning teacher(s). Thus "barutiwa" is Baruti's people or literally a group of knowledgeable, courageous people under a competent leader.

  Internet Internet Forums Today

Message boards (popularly known as Internet forums) are the modern equivalent of the old dial-up Bulletin Board Systems that were popular from the late 1970s to the late 1990s.  Ward Christensen with the help of Randy Suess developed the first public dial-up Bulletin Board System in 1978.  Today, Internet forums are pretty much web applications that manage user-generated content.  The earliest Internet forums known can be traced back to 1996 when the World Wide Web started gaining popularity.  These early Internet forums combined the functions of the old Bulletin Board Systems and Usenet.

Poetry Synopsis: Exposition of A Poem

I have always agonized over the fact I speak English as a first language.  Yet I shall break the chasms of history and kiss my people across the water.  The blood circulation to the soul has been arrested, but not permanently.  Language is central to identity as water is essential to life.  A people lacking a language of their own is a people destined for genocide.

Baruti M. Kamau Liberia: A Black American Perspective

Baruti writes "Those who are interested in West African affairs cannot get an accurate grasp without considering Black America's contribution to modern state building in that region of Africa.  Baruti M. Kamau, an African American, in an unfinished book entitled "My Disquisition on the Liberian Political Phenomenon" that was initiated in 1995 writes: "The purpose of my disquisition on the Liberian Political Phenomenon is to trace the origins of the Liberian civil war and explain why Liberia was able to practice a pseudo-democracy with one party rule for more than a century without succumbing to military coup or civil war until relatively recent in their history.""

PHP-Nuke Bugs: Solving PHP-Nuke Software Issues

I really like this PHP-Nuke script.  There is plenty of room for development, which allow me to improve upon my programming skills.  I am still studying the source code of this PHP-Nuke.  From a practical perspective, for the time being, I'm currently documenting all of the software issues [bugs] that our users are having when they login and try to perform a specific action.  After documenting a minimum of 5 known issues I will work toward solving the problems and post any solutions along with the source code under the PHP-Nuke topic @ this website.

Editor's Note: This article is a work in progress.  I will be adding to the list of known and unknown bugs with the PHP-Nuke software.
